MATERIAL PROFILE

High-Performance Microfiber Surface

SUPPLIER Alcantara S.p.A. ORIGIN Italy (Nera Montoro, Umbria) APPLICATION Lining, Insole, Upper

MATERIAL OVERVIEW

Alcantara is a proprietary microfiber material developed and manufactured exclusively in Italy since 1972. The material is produced through a patented process that creates an ultra-fine fiber structure — approximately 0.05mm in diameter, 1/100th the thickness of a human hair — woven into a polymeric matrix.

The result is a surface with the aesthetic and tactile qualities of natural suede, but with engineered performance characteristics that suede cannot match: uniform appearance, consistent behavior, superior durability, and full washability.

Alcantara occupies a unique material category. It is not leather. It is not fabric. It is not a leather substitute. It is a distinct material platform with its own performance envelope.

We use Alcantara for inner linings, insoles, and selected uppers across our collection. The material is in direct contact with the foot — the most demanding application for any lining material.

WHY WE USE IT

Thermoregulation

Breathable structure. Warm in winter, cool in summer. For a material in constant contact with skin, thermal performance is not optional.

Dimensional Stability

Maintains shape under repeated stress. Does not stretch, sag, or deform over time. Critical for insole applications where foot pressure is continuous.

Cleanability

Machine washable at 30°C. Professional dry cleaning compatible. A functional advantage for footwear that is worn, not displayed.

Consistency

Uniform surface appearance. No natural variations, grain irregularities, or batch-to-batch unpredictability. Engineering precision across every pair.
